First Day Hikes on January 1, 2025, at Saddleback Butte State Park
Start 2025 with fun, fresh air and a healthy hike at Saddleback Butte State Park. The park will offer 3 free guided hikes on January 1st, 2025, as part of America’s State Parks’ First Day Hikes initiative. Parking is free all day for this event!
Check in for Hikes 1 and 2 (described below) will be in the campground this year. Check-in for Hike 3 at the Saddleback Butte Visitor Center in the Day Use (Picnic) Area.
This will also be a great opportunity to learn about how to volunteer at our parks !
Hike 1: 9am, strenuous 6 mile hike from the campground to Saddleback Peak (3651ft) offering incredible views and exerciseHike 2: 10am, easy/moderate 3.5 mile loop starting in campground and across the park with a focus on ecology and history of the areaHike 3: 11am, easy 0.5 mile interpretive walk along the Dowen Nature Trail. A great introduction to the landscape for all ages and abilities. Starts and ends at the Visitor Center Dress in layers, bring snacks, and bring plenty of water.
Directions: from Lancaster, travel east on Avenue J past 170th Street East. The entrance to the Day Use Area is on Avenue J just past the intersection of Avenue J and 170th Street East. To reach the campground, travel east through the Day Use Area (Picnic Area) and turn right (south) on the dirt road at the east end of the picnic area. Travel 1 mile down this road to the campground.
Annual Meeting and Luncheon for

PRMDIA's November Annual Meeting and Luncheon will feature a raffle of a Jane Pinheiro pen and ink drawing, Drawing is framed. Total size with frame is 21" x 17". All current members will be invited (check your mail!).
